Industry training continuously adds value to MRM’s Marketing Services

In December 2017, MRM’s Business Development Executive Vikki Godlington was officially accepted onto the Institute of Promotional Marketing’s 30 under 30 Programme (a relatively new initiative which aims to provide development sessions for the marketing leaders of the future).

Having just successfully completed her Certificate in Promotional Marketing, Vikki saw this as a natural progression to widen her contacts and knowledge of the industry.

The candidates chosen for the programme are offered the chance to participate in a range of learning experiences to enhance their capabilities and to provide them with skills and knowledge which they can take away and share with their colleagues in the organisations they work for.

Vikki has already benefitted from two sessions on this programme:

“Following the pre-Xmas intro session where I was formally accepted onto the programme and had the opportunity to meet peers and fellow course members, the first session proper was back in January.  This was an interesting insight into marketing career paths and the various published studies on the subject.

Marketing covers a wide scope and the careers offered across the industry are many and varied.  It’s also been great to get to know my peers on the course and to understand their different roles across a wide range of companies: agencies, manufacturers, publishers and other service agencies like ours.

The second session has provided real food for thought ~ covering negotiation and client management subjects.  These are really appropriate topics for me in my role as Business Development Executive at MRM.  I particularly enjoyed the session on psychology ~ I’m already putting the analysis and matching of social styles into practice in my communication with clients and prospects! I’ve also been able to bring back and to present the information to my Commercial colleagues.

The whole experience has been really useful, it’s revision of stuff I already know, it’s a good relaxed way to learn and I’ve really enjoyed meeting people from other IPM member companies.  And of course there’s the social aspect too … it gives me the opportunity to meet like-minded people in a more relaxed social setting to share thoughts and current experiences ~ either work related or otherwise!”

Commercial Director Mel Sheldon is an advocate of the programme too:

“The benefits of this IPM programme are twofold ~ not only is Vikki is able to consolidate her own knowledge and bring back new learnings to the wider team but this also means that she can pass on this advice and good practice to our clients.  This enables us to continually add value and to ensure we’re up to date with all aspects of promotional marketing”
